- Black Bear tracks by Terry Kem
Join Linda Hunter, author of Lonesome for Bears, for an evening lecture on the finer points of tracking bears. Tracking bears is like tracking a man wearing moccasins, they leave large soft prints with soft edges, except when they step in the mud. Bears live all around us, often visiting our homes and parks when we are fast asleep, but they don't have to step in mud for you to see that they were there. Linda has been learning to track bears for 16 years, four of which she spent working at a bear viewing lodge in Alaska for the summer with bears all around. Now, she tracks bears in Washington State and finds that bears lead lives around ours, closer than most people notice.
The lecture will include photos, samples and plaster casts and tracking techniques for seeing subtle tracks.
Cost: $10 members / $15 non-members
Linda Hunter is a founding member of the International Society of Professional Trackers. She lives in Stevenson, WA. and with her husband has spent four summers managing a lodge in the Alaska wilderness where bears - both Brown and Black - were her neighbors. She is also an experienced tracker of humans and has volunteered on numerous search and rescue operations.
